Footy is back in the Netherlands

Fixtures 2020 | Five rounds of footy in 2020

27 July 2020

Australian Football is back on the agenda in the Netherlands following a COVID-19 impacted season. All teams returned to training in May 2020 with good attendance seen across the three teams. In July contact was allowed again at training and with the announcement that competitive games can take place, AFL Netherlands has been working on a revised 2020 schedule. With three round robin tournaments and a Preliminary and Grand Final, it is set to be a great finish to the 2020 season that looked destined to be a write-off a few months ago. Below is the schedule.

1 August – Tournament in Delft

15 August – Tournament in Purmerend

29 August – Tournament in Amsterdam

5 September – Prelim Final in Amsterdam

19 September – Grand Final in Purmerend

The revised schedule is subject to change if further COVID-19 restrictions are announced.

All three men’s teams are gearing up for the first Tournament in Delft, however it’s not too late to get involved with all clubs looking for new players. If you are keen to get involved, then please reach out to us at secretary@aflnetherlands.nl or alternatively each team can be reached via their social media channels.

AFLW NL Amsterdam Devils vs Scotland Match Report

Location:

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Date:

4th May 2019

Match Report:

Amsterdam Devils Women 11.4 (70)
Scotland Sirens 1.2 (8)

Saturday 4th of May saw the Amsterdam Devils women hosting several of the Scottish Sirens women for a friendly match as part of the AFL Netherlands Kings Day Cup event.

It was a fantastic opportunity for new players in both teams to take to the pitch for their first games of footy in Europe. The Devils women recent Champions League experience shone through throughout the game and they were able to over-run the Scottish on the scoreboard, however this game was more about gaining footy experience than what the scoreboard said at the end of the game. Both sides played hard, competitive footy in each quarter and did so with a smile on their face.

A big thank you to the Scotland women for making the trip over to Amsterdam.

A return trip is planned for later this year in August, where the Sirens will host our Amsterdam Devils women in Edinburgh.
